We wanted to pay homage to two precious parts of Common Grace. First, we wanted to honor one of Common Grace’s core values: kindness, the act of giving towards a child without expecting anything in return. Many of our children are isolated, lonely, and in need of a friend - especially now during the pandemic. Many children look forward to the hour their mentor comes to visit them and give them their undivided attention. The kindness our mentors show to these children through listening, playing, reading, and just being there as a caring friend truly ROCKS!
Pictures above were taken during the 2019-2020 school year, prior to the pandemic.
Second, one of our favorite activities to do with our mentees is painting kindness rocks! Armed with nothing but a paintbrush, some paint, and a smooth stone, our mentors and mentees have painted so many encouraging messages and happy doodles on these little rocks, which they either keep or leave somewhere outside for someone to stumble upon and smile. Not only do our mentors show our mentees kindness, but they also encourage their kids to show kindness to others, too.
This past year has been full of uncertainties, but one thing is for sure: Kindness ROCKS!
